1. Overview
Pea โ Clean Eating Scanner ("Pea", "we", "us", or "our") is a mobile application operated by an individual developer. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Pea app on iOS or Android.
By downloading or using Pea, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account credentials โ if you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password.
- Dietary preferences and allergens โ the lifestyle choices and ingredients you select to avoid (e.g. Vegan, Gluten-free, Peanuts). This is stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to your account.
- Product submissions โ if you add a missing product to the database, we collect the product name, brand, barcode, ingredients, category, and any photos you upload.
- Support communications โ if you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence.
Information collected automatically
- Scan history โ barcodes you scan and products you save are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in, this data is associated with your account.
- Usage data โ anonymous analytics such as which screens you visit, how often you scan, and app crashes. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Device information โ device type, operating system version, and app version, used for debugging and compatibility.
- Purchase information โ if you subscribe to Pea Premium, transaction details (but not payment card details) are processed by Apple or Google and shared with our subscription management provider, RevenueCat. We receive only your subscription status.
Information we do NOT collect
- Payment card numbers or banking information (handled entirely by Apple/Google)
- Precise GPS location
- Contacts, calendar, or microphone data
- Photos beyond what you explicitly choose to upload for a product submission

3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Pea app
- Authenticate your account and sync your preferences across devices
- Display personalised scan results based on your dietary preferences and allergens
- Process your Premium subscription and verify your entitlements
- Respond to your support requests
- Improve the app based on anonymous usage patterns and crash reports
- Contribute product submissions to the Open Food Facts open database
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling for third parties, or any purpose not listed above.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers โ we use a small number of third-party services to operate the app (see Section 5). These providers process data only on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using it for their own purposes.
- Open Food Facts โ if you submit a missing product, the product data (name, brand, barcode, ingredients) is contributed to the Open Food Facts public database under an open licence. This data becomes publicly available. Do not submit information you wish to keep private.
- Legal requirements โ we may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
- Business transfer โ if the app is acquired or transferred, your information may be part of that transaction. You will be notified in advance.
5. Third-Party Services
Pea uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

6. Data Retention
- Account data โ retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Local device data โ stored on your device until you delete the app or use the "Delete Account" option in Settings.
- Anonymous analytics โ retained in aggregated form for up to 24 months.
- Support emails โ retained for up to 2 years for reference.
- Product submissions to Open Food Facts โ once submitted, this data is governed by Open Food Facts' own policies and cannot be deleted by us.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access โ request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction โ request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion โ request deletion of your data. You can do this directly in the app via Settings โ Delete Account, or by emailing us.
- Portability โ request your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection โ object to certain processing of your data
- Withdraw consent โ where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

8. Children's Privacy
Pea is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at azyryaev@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
- Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
- Access to backend systems is restricted to the developer
- We use established, security-audited third-party infrastructure (Firebase, RevenueCat)
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you within the app. Your continued use of Pea after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
